Carrie Underwood Reacts To Randy Travis’ Brand-New Song
Randy Travis dropped a fresh track titled “Where That Came From” on May 3rd, and Carrie Underwood expressed her admiration for the country icon in response to the release.
Travis released “Where That Came From” on Friday, May 3. The song is the first new studio recording the country music legend has released in over a decade.
Travis suffered a stroke in 2013 that severely affected his ability to talk and sing. He’s since made a few public appearances to sing “Amazing Grace” and the last “amen” in “Forever and Ever, Amen.” Travis also released music from his archives to give fans something new to listen to.
Then, Travis finally got to make a new song, “Where That Came From.” After its release, CBS revealed how AI made it possible for Travis to release a new recording 11 years after his stroke.
“With the help of another singer, a specially-designed AI program overlayed Travis’ voice on the new recording,” CBS reported.
Cris Lacy, the co-chair and president of Warner Music Nashville, told the outlet:
“There’s just so much chatter about all the negative sides of AI. We started with this concept of, ‘What would AI … look like for us?’ And the first thing that came to mind [was] we would give Randy Travis his voice back.”
Carrie Underwood Reacts To The New Randy Travis Song
Before he released “Where That Came From,” Travis played the song for his family and friends. He shared videos of their emotional reactions when they heard it for the first time.
One person who got a special preview of “Where That Came From” was Carrie Underwood. She and Travis share a close connection, which all started after she recorded his song “I Told You So.”
They later united to record the song as a duet. Their new recording won the Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals.
Travis was the person who surprised Underwood with an invitation to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2008. He returned to surprise her again when she celebrated her 10th Opry anniversary in 2018.
Underwood also introduced Travis to her two sons backstage at another Opry show in 2023.
So when Travis played “Where That Came From” for Underwood before the song’s release, she was honored, to say the least. She shared her reaction to the song in a post on social media.
“Congratulations @therandytravis on the release of #WhereThatCameFrom!” she wrote alongside a recent photo of her and Travis. “I had no idea what you had up your sleeve when we recently met, but I’m so honored that you included me to preview this song…it’s amazing!”
