One day after bidding farewell to The Voice, his tv home for 12 years, Blake Shelton announced a new television venture.
In a press release issued Wednesday (May 24), it was announced that Blake Shelton is teaming up with Lee Metzger, an Emmy award-winning producer and showrunner, to form Lucky Horseshoe Productions, a television production company.
Metzger and Shelton worked together previously on Barmageddon, a celebrity game show filmed at Shelton’s Ole Red in Nashville. In the release, the pair shared their hope for the new company that includes bringing their ideas and vision to a “wider range of projects across various genres and platforms.”
“Over the years of working with Blake, we’ve created some incredible TV moments. Now, with the success of Barmageddon, we’ve realized we have a creative point of view that an audience loves to watch,” said Metzger in the release. “I’m looking forward to producing our own brand of entertainment and years of success with Blake. Besides, now that he’s left The Voice, it’s not like he has anything better to do.”
Blake Shelton is one of few country artists who have found success both in music and on television.
From Grand Ole Opry membership and platinum albums to Grammy nominations, Shelton’s country music career is one to be proud of. And, it’s his country music popularity that landed him at The Voice for its inaugural season in 2011. Blake recently retired from The Voice, ending an impressive 23-season coaching streak where he coached nine artists to victory, making himself the winningest coach in the show’s history.
While appearing on The Voice, the “God’s Country” singer ventured into other television projects. In addition to producing Barmageddon, which recently wrapped production on its second season, Blake also served as producer on a series of Hallmark movies.
“It’s Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas” and “Time for You to Come Home for Christmas” were the first in a series of four movies produced by the Oklahoma native for the Hallmark Channel. The movies were inspired by Shelton’s song, “Time for Me to Come Home,” a tune written and recorded by Blake and his mom, Dorothy Shackleford.
More information about Blake Shelton’s new production company and projects will be released at a later time.
