Country, pop and rap fans are getting used to cross-genre collaborations that pair two unlikely acts together on a potential hit single. We’ve heard Dan + Shay with Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood and Ludacris, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus and more. However, one of the most unlikely country singers to lend his voice to a rap tune, Blake Shelton, has done exactly that with the iconic singer, songwriter, rapper and producer Pitbull and the resulting tune, “Get Ready,” isn’t just impressive it’s pretty dang infectious.

With Blake supplying the vocal on a hefty sample of Ram Jam’s “Black Betty” and Pitbull rolling out the rap, “Get Ready” is a raucous, driving party anthem just in time for spring break. Heavily driven by a consistent kick-clap combo, it’s difficult to sit still from the moment the first beat drops. And Pitbull’s lyric is an invitation to “shake that thing, work that thing, drop that thing,” is hard to ignore.

The video for “Get Ready,” which is the fourth single from Pitbull’s Libertad 548 album, is a bit more overt in its directive and, playing off of his and Blake’s different backgrounds, delivers a statement of “more alike than different.” Shots alternate from the Miami rapper poolside in Atlantic City to the Oklahoma country boy in a barn in an undisclosed location. Whether a bevy of bikini beauties or a dance floor of boot-scootin’ babes, the message seems abundantly clear — no matter the location, no matter the beat, folks love a good time.
