A song earning Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a rare milestone that few artists achieve.
To reach this status, a song must sell or stream at least 10 million units. So far, only 12 country songs have ever hit this mark. Keep reading to see which tracks have earned the impressive honor of being certified Diamond.
“Cruise” – Florida Georgia Line
“Cruise” was released in 2012 by the former duo Florida Georgia Line. Upon its release, it reached No.16 on the Billboard Hot 100. A remix featuring rapper Nelly later pushed the song into the chart’s top 10.
After gaining massive airplay on country radio, it became the best-selling digital song by a country duo by the following year. On April 1, 2016, it made history as the first country song to earn Diamond certification and has since been certified 14x Platinum by the RIAA.
“Old Town Road” – Lil Nas X & Billy Ray Cyrus
“Old Town Road” became a massive hit as a country-rap crossover by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-breaking 19 weeks and won two Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video.
On October 22, 2019, it was certified Diamond, making it the fastest single to ever do so.
“Tennessee Whiskey” – Chris Stapleton
Tennessee Whiskey” was originally recorded by David Allan Coe in 1981, but it was Chris Stapleton’s version that helped catapult the popularity of the song. His rendition earned a nomination for Song of the Year at the ACM Awards and on December 14, 2021, it was certified Diamond. Now, it has reached 14x Platinum.
“Wagon Wheel” – Darius Rucker
“Wagon Wheel” was originally recorded by Old Crow Medicine Show, earning Platinium certification in 2013. However, the song gained even more success through covers by multiple country artists, most notably Darius Rucker’s 2013 version.
The song became certified Diamond on October 27, 2023, and has since reached 11x Platinum.
“Beautiful Crazy” – Luke Combs
Luke Combs’ “Beautiful Crazy” has been a viral success since it first appeared on his debut album This One’s for You, in 2017. After its release, it held the number-one spot on the Hot Country Songs chart for 11 weeks. It was also awarded Song of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards. A few years later, in 2023, it was officially certified Diamond by the RIAA.
Most recently, “Beautiful Crazy” surpassed one billion streams on Spotify. It is now the eighth country song to ever reach this number.
“Need You Now” – Lady A
“Need You Now” by Lady A spent five weeks at No.1 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 2009 and earned the band four Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The single was certified Diamond on April 17, 2023, and has since reached 11x Platinum.
“Body Like a Back Road” – Sam Hunt
“Body Like a Back Road” is Sam Hunt’s most successful song to date. Released in 2017, it broke two records within a month. It became the longest-running No.1 in 55 years, holding the top spot of the Hot Country Songs chart for 20 weeks. It later became the only song in the chart’s history to stay at the number one spot for 24 weeks, surpassing Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise.”
The song was certified Diamond on July 27, 2023, and has since reached 11x Platinum.
“Heaven” – Kane Brown
“Heaven” was released in 2017 on Kane Brown’s self-titled debut album. The song hit No.1 on the U.S. Country Airplay chart in 2018 and reached No.2 on the Hot Country Songs chart. On December 27, 2023, it was certified Diamond.
“In Case You Didn’t Know” – Brett Young
Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know” was released to radio in 2017 as the second single from his self-titled debut album. In June of that year, it reached No.1 on the Country Airplay chart, becoming Young’s first chart-topper. It became certified Platinum on May 23, 2017.
On March 20, 2024, the song was certified Diamond after surpassing 10 million combined sales and streaming units in the U.S.
“Hurricane” – Luke Combs
“Hurricane” was Luke Combs’ breakout hit and served as his debut single in country music. It reached No.1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, where it held the top spot for two weeks.
Nearly a decade after its release, the song was certified Diamond on August 14, 2024.
“When It Rains It Pours” – Luke Combs
“When It Rains It Pours” is another hit from Luke Combs’ debut album. The song topped both the Billboard Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs chart, becoming his second No.1 hit.
It is also one of the two songs by Combs to surpass one billion streams on Spotify, making him the only country artist to achieve this twice. The song was certified Diamond on August 14, 2024.
“What Ifs” – Kane Brown & Lauren Alaina
“What Ifs” is a duet between longtime friends Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina. The song reached No.1 on both of Billboard’s country charts in 2017.
A year later, Brown and Alaina gained even more attention for the track with a viral performance at the ACM Awards. The song later secured the No.6 spot on the decade-end Hot Country Songs chart.
