Scotty McCreery is mourning the loss of his beloved grandmothers, Janet and Paquita, who both passed away on July 9
Scotty shared the heartbreaking news about his grandmothers’ deaths the following day, July 10. He wrote:
“My heart is absolutely broken. Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away. I think I am still in a bit of shock as I type this, but I’m choosing to remember the great memories we all made with both of them.”
Scotty ended his post by writing, “I will miss them dearly. If yall could keep my family in your prayers I’d appreciate it.
The Opry member shared a photo of Janet and Paquita with him and his wife, Gabi, on their wedding day in 2018. Scotty and Gabi share a two-year-old son, Avery, and are currently expecting their second child.
Scotty’s mom, Judy, also spoke about her family’s devastating losses. Janet, her mother, passed away shortly after 1 PM on July 9. Judy said her mom had been fighting norovirus and the flu, which caused dehydration and pneumonia. Janet was 85 years old.
Scotty Gets Choked Up While Performing “Five More Minutes” At Concert In Ohio
The same day Scotty McCreery shared the news of his grandmothers’ deaths (July 10), he took to the stage to perform at the Country Concert Festival in Fort Loramie, Ohio. During the show, he performed his emotional song “Five More Minutes,” which has always been deeply personal to him.
Scotty once opened up about the meaning behind “Five More Minutes,” which he wrote with Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell two weeks after his grandfather died.
“It’s just kind of where my mind was at that day when we went to the writing session…and started talking about granddaddy,” Scotty told Country Rebel. “Just the good times we had…still have a few things I wish I could have said to him and things I wish I could have done again with him.“
Scotty debuted “Five More Minutes” at the Grand Ole Opry in 2016. He released it as a single in 2017, and it became his first #1 hit.
Following his grandmothers’ deaths on July 9, Scotty had a difficult time making it through his performance of “Five More Minutes.” TikTok user mattrickkkk uploaded a short clip of Scotty struggling to sing as he got choked up and appeared to be fighting back tears.
“Scotty singing Five More minutes tonight at country concert was saddening, heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time! Prayers for Scotty’s family during this hard time…” mattrickkkk captioned the video. Watch it below.
