Blake Shelton to Produce Documentary Honoring the Late Keith Whitley
Blake Shelton’s company, Lucky Horse Entertainment, along with Anomaly Content & Entertainment (ACE), will take on the project about Keith Whitley’s life.
On Tuesday, December 10, Blake Shelton made a major announcement that an upcoming documentary about country legend Keith Whitley is in the works. This will mark the first-ever official documentary about the late country star.
“Keith Whitley released only three albums during his life, but his music has influenced generations of country music artists,” Shelton wrote on social media. “I’m proud and honored we get to bring his incredible story to film.”

What We Know So Far
Keith Whitley, who tragically passed away at the age of 34 in 1989, continued to inspire so many people even after his death.
According to Shelton, the film will delve into Whitley’s personal life and professional career. Fans will get a glimpse of parts of the music icon’s life that have never been talked about before.
The documentary will include archival footage from the Country Music Hall of Fame, along with personal collections shared by Whitley’s widow, Lorrie Morgan. It will also take a look into Whitley’s childhood as it explores his hometown of Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
Additionally, Lorrie Morgan will also reflect on life after losing her husband, sharing her journey as she navigates her career while continuing to honor his memory and keep his legacy alive after all these years.
Filming will begin in January 2025 according to a press release. The idea for the documentary started when Blake Shelton realized that, surprisingly, a documentary about Keith Whitley had never been made.
“Gwen and I love to watch music documentaries, and I looked for his doc one night and couldn’t believe that there wasn’t one,” he said.
Blake Shelton will be working with ACE Partner Evan Hayes and ACE Partner and CEO Justin Barocas, who will serve as Executive Producer. The film will be directed by Academy Award nominee Zach Heinzerling.
