George Strait on Kris Kristofferson: ‘He Lived One Heck of a Life’

After Kris Kristofferson’s death on Saturday (Sept. 28), George Strait is remembering the late legend for his world-classic songwriting talents and his kind spirit.

Strait and Kristofferson weren’t personal friends, but in his tribute, the King of Country says that Kristofferson’s graciousness still shined through in every encounter they had.

“I knew him on a professional level only, but I always felt like it was more, because of the kindness and respect he showed me on the times we met,” Strait recalls. “I’ll treasure those times forever.”
He also says that, just like Kristofferson’s many fans, he’s grieving the loss of a one-of-a-kind musical talent.

“Artists and songwriters of this caliber come along very rarely and he certainly made his mark on the world,” Strait writes. “My family, like most people, were huge fans and we will all miss him.”

“… He lived one heck of a life and I’m hoping it has only just begun for him,” Strait concludes. “God bless Kris and all of the Kristofferson family.”

Kristofferson died at the age of 88 on Saturday, and his death was announced in a statement by his family the following day. No cause of death was immediately available, but the Kristofferson family shared their gratitude for the time they had with him and for the support they received from his many fans.

Many other country artists have turned out on social media to share remembrances of the late, great singer-songwriter.

Kristofferson will also be remembered for his successful acting career, including his starring role in the 1976 film A Star Is Born. Following his death, his co-star and longtime friend Barbra Streisand shared her first and last memories with Kristofferson, and expressed her condolences to his wife Lisa.
