Brooks & Dunn to release their first new album in 16 years.

Brooks & Dunn are back in the studio, reigniting their legacy by working on their first new album of original material in nearly two decades.

Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn recently spoke with CBS Mornings, sharing insights about their enduring partnership and the creative process that has sustained them for over 30 years. During the conversation, Dunn confirmed that they are actively crafting a new record, much to the excitement of fans who have awaited fresh music since their 2007 album.

New Music on the Horizon

While discussing their partnership, Dunn emphasized the importance of compromise in their songwriting process. “We’re compromising right now. We’re working on a new record,” he stated. He elaborated on the collaborative dynamic, noting that their creative exchanges involve a rigorous critique of each other’s work. “You talk about the ultimate compromise… you sweat and bleed every word,” he said, highlighting the duo’s commitment to quality.

Brooks echoed Dunn’s sentiments, acknowledging the challenges in selecting which songs make the final cut. “We both realize deep down, that song I wrote is better than that song I wrote,” he noted. This honesty in their discussions allows the duo to strive for the best possible album.

Since the release of Cowboy Town in 2007, fans have missed the duo’s original music. Although they released Reboot in 2019 and are set to launch Reboot II in 2024, these projects revisited classic tracks rather than introducing new content. The duo acknowledges that while nostalgia has its place, fans are eager for new material.

Brooks & Dunn’s continued relevance is underscored by their recent wins as CMA Vocal Duo of the Year in 2024 and 2025, indicating a robust fanbase still interested in their work.

Looking Forward

With a resurgence of ’90s country sounds permeating the music scene, the timing could be ideal for Brooks & Dunn to introduce their latest creations. They will also be celebrated at the 2026 CMA Awards, where they will receive the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award on November 18. As they prepare for this recognition, fans are left wondering what new musical directions the duo will explore in their upcoming album.
