Danielle Parton feared Aunt Dolly might have cancer.

Danielle Parton, niece of the legendary Dolly Parton, revealed that she suspected her aunt was facing a serious health challenge shortly after sharing her own cancer diagnosis in early August, mere weeks before Dolly’s passing on August 25.

In a recent interview with Extra, Danielle, daughter of Dolly’s brother Bobby, recounted how she confided in her aunt about her early-stage cancer diagnosis around August 6. Although her condition was caught at stage zero, Dolly’s emotional response led Danielle to believe her aunt was also struggling with a serious illness.

Sharing Heartfelt News

“I am going through a little bit of a cancer battle myself right now,” Danielle expressed, emphasizing the relatively manageable nature of her diagnosis. Despite her reassurances, Dolly’s heavy reaction indicated a deeper concern that prompted Danielle to suspect her aunt was fighting a battle of her own. “Look, you gotta get it together, it ain’t that deep,” she recalled insisting to her aunt, aiming to alleviate the emotional burden.

While Danielle knew Dolly was unwell, she later realized the extent of her aunt’s condition was concealed by Dolly’s instinct to prioritize the well-being of her loved ones over her own challenges. “She worried more about everybody else, before she would ever let you know that anything was wrong with her,” Danielle reflected.

The Legacy of Danielle Parton

Danielle Parton has made a name for herself outside of her famous family, having served as a commercial airline pilot and military veteran before launching her own moonshine distillery, Shine Girl, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Recently, Dolly’s estate announced Danielle as its official brand ambassador, highlighting their strong familial bond.

The two shared a close relationship, with Dolly even recording a special message for Danielle’s military retirement in 2025. Danielle noted that her aunt had a unique ability to uplift her nieces, instilling a sense of beauty and importance. “She always acted like we were the prettiest, the best,” she recalled, appreciating the affection and encouragement Dolly consistently provided.

The loss of Dolly Parton has resonated deeply within the family and beyond, with Danielle expressing her amazement at the global outpouring of love and tributes following her aunt’s death. “I’ve always known that Dolly was a huge star, but it’s fascinating to me to see the outpouring of love since she’s passed,” she said, capturing the profound impact of Dolly’s legacy on fans and family alike.
