Roseanne Barr’s latest television venture, the sitcom Meemaw, faces an uphill battle as it currently lacks a network or streaming home.
The show, filmed in Austin, Texas, sees Barr portraying the matriarch of a family of survivalists, but despite completing eight episodes, no platform has agreed to air it. This situation leaves Barr with a fully produced project and no clear path to broadcast.
Challenges in Finding a Home for ‘Meemaw’
Reports indicate that major networks such as ABC, NBC, and CBS have shown no interest in the series, nor have major streaming services stepped up to claim it. According to Naughty But Nice, Barr took a risk by independently producing the show after failing to secure financing from traditional networks.
Roseanne couldn’t get a network to finance her comeback, so she went ahead and made the show herself. Now she’s got eight episodes and no buyer. That’s a very expensive gamble.
While there are discussions about the possibility of Meemaw finding a home on Newsmax, no deal has yet been finalized. As it stands, viewers are left without any confirmed platform or premiere date.
The cast of this independently produced sitcom includes notable actors such as Randy Quaid, Tony Hinchcliffe, Drea de Matteo, and Jon Lovitz. Barr’s character is the grandmother of a family whose survivalist ambitions include planning an extravagant bat mitzvah.
Roseanne Barr’s Return to Television
Barr’s comeback effort comes after the highly publicized cancellation of the Roseanne revival in 2018, which was halted due to Barr’s controversial social media remarks regarding Valerie Jarrett. Following her exit, the series continued as The Conners, sans Barr, demonstrating the challenges she now faces in regaining television momentum.
Despite her enduring fan base, the television industry appears reluctant to embrace Barr’s new initiative. An insider noted, “Roseanne still has fans. But fans aren’t television executives.”
As of now, Meemaw awaits a network decision, leaving fans eager for news and a prospective release date still on the horizon.
