2 dead, over a dozen hurt in shooting at Catholic school in Minneapolis, shooter ‘contained’

A tragic school shooting in Minneapolis claimed the lives of at least two people and injured more than a dozen others on Wednesday morning. The violence unfolded during drop-off at Annunciation Catholic School, which serves students from pre-K through eighth grade.

Shooter Believed to Be Deceased

City officials confirmed that the shooter is “contained” and there is no active threat to the community. According to multiple sources, the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Students were seen leaving the school with their parents, many still dressed in their uniforms. The terrifying event occurred during the first week of the new school year.

Leaders React to Minneapolis School Shooting

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz addressed the situation on social media, writing:

“I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”

Local parents also described the panic. Emily Feste, whose niece and nephew attend the school, told KSTP:

“We heard about 15 minutes ago that they’re safe. But it’s so awful and it’s so scary.”

Federal Agencies Respond

State authorities are on the scene, and agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have joined the investigation.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is monitoring the situation closely. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said:

“I am praying for the victims of this heinous attack and their families.”

President Trump Briefed on the Tragedy

President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that he has been “fully briefed on the tragic shooting.” He added:

“The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!”

News Conference

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara reported that the gunman fired into the church from the outside, targeting students and other worshippers during a Wednesday morning mass just before 8:30 a.m.

“Two young children, ages 8 and 10, were killed where they sat in the pews,” O’Hara reported. “17 other people were injured, 14 of them being children. Two of those children are in critical condition.”
