Carrie Underwood Shared The Reason She Got Emotional While Recording Her New Christmas Album

Hint: It has to do with her sweet son, Isaiah.

Carrie Underwood just dropped a new HBO Max Christmas special, My Gift, and it’s the stuff holiday dreams are made of. The former American Idol winner’s vocal talents are on full display as she belts out Christmas classics and original songs plucked straight from My Gift, her first full-length Christmas album, which was released this fall.

In the trailer, we get a sneak peek at Carrie performing with her band, a live orchestra, and a choir conducted by Rickey Minor.

John Legend also joins Carrie for a powerful performance of their original song, “Hallelujah,” which is also featured on Carrie’s album.

“I’m doing a song with John Legend and it’s just been a wonderful experience all the way through,” she says in the clip. “To be able to sing these songs from this beautiful set really just felt amazing.”

For the star on top of this gorgeous Christmas tree of a special, fans will get an adorable behind-the-scenes look at Carrie recording “Little Drummer Boy” with her son Isaiah, 5.

“It was so great,” the singer told People of recording the duet with her son. “I was laughing, and I was crying, and it was just very overwhelming in a good way. It’s just very emotional.”

Carrie also shared a photo of the special mother-son moment on her Instagram on Monday.

“So happy we captured the sweetest voice in this special moment in time,” she wrote alongside a snap of her and Isaiah singing into a microphone. “My own Little Drummer Boy will be a part of the #MyGift Christmas Special beginning this Thursday on @hbomax!”
